WISDOM

 OBEYING GOD IS WISDOM

Matt 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Wisdom is neither in the complexities of the philosopher, nor in the practicalities of the worldly shrewd, these the Bible says are “enticing words of man’s wisdom”. Wisdom is to be found only in God, and If anyone desires to be wise he must obey God. There is no other way to embark on the path of wisdom. Continue reading WISDOM

The New Year Promise & The Christian

With every passing new year, Christians in the millions cling on to a promise or promises from the Bible, and ever so desperately if they happen to be facing adversity. These promises of a great future, prosperity, health and so on are relevant except that these promises, verses, need to be understood and applied in the context of the biblical narrative, and also in tandem with other scriptural truths, else one can be guilty of having a lopsided view of God and life.

Power to the Faint

ISA 40:29 to 31 – He giveth power to the faint;
and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint. Continue reading Power to the Faint

Entering the Kingdom

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Bewildered, Nicodemus, a pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, asks Jesus whether that meant entering one’s mother’s womb to be born again, quite literally.

God’s Kingdom, three things: the criterion, the cause, and the character. Continue reading Entering the Kingdom

THE HOUND OF HEAVEN

During my lowest phase, as I wandered, destitute and ragged, it was the passionate and the relentless pursuit of the hound of heaven that forever changed my life. He followed me, surely, goodness and mercy followed me!

THE HOUND OF HEAVEN, FRANCIS THOMPSON

I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the midst of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.
Up vistaed hopes I sped;
And shot, precipitated,
Adown Titanic glooms of chasmed fears,
From those strong Feet that followed, followed after. Continue reading THE HOUND OF HEAVEN

THE CROSS & THE CROWN

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Matt 10:38

Christianity as perceived by some is the stuff of “crowns”, a theology identified by popular labels such as prosperity, abundance and security. This is a form of Christianity which supposedly guarantees immunity from suffering and is akin to a “talisman” that  prevents danger. Continue reading THE CROSS & THE CROWN

I WAS GOMER

When a person reads the Prophet Hosea for the very first time, he is appalled by the fact that God could ask a prophet to marry a prostitute. However, what should really be shocking is not the fact that the prophet was asked to marry a prostitute, but to see ourselves in the place of the prostitute; Hosea viewed by any other lens other than viewing ourselves as “Gomer the prostitute” is making a mockery of the Word of God. The Shrivelled Fig Tree

“And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there. Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!”—Matthew 21:17-20. Continue reading The Shrivelled Fig Tree

THE FIG TREE SHALL NOT BLOSSOM

Hab 3:17 & 18: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. A Cheerful Person is a Feasting Person

Proverbs 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

The Bible says that being merry (cheerful) is like having the choicest food every day of our life. Yes, the merry heart is a feasting heart. Mish-teh, the Hebrew word for feast, is a symbol of gastronomic banqueting pleasure.

The Bible says that a cheerful heart has medicinal properties, for it protects the mind and the body from ailments that are a result of stress. Therefore being happy is adding to our overall well-being, Pro 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones

Conversely, being sad can crush, crush us of everything that the French say is: joie de vivre (a feeling of great happiness and enjoyment of life). And sadness by the way is the emotional attitude of the ungrateful person, for he always looks at people better, for he never counts his blessings, and in due course of time, he shrinks: shrines mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Also, being happy is a commandment, for Jesus said: take no thought for your life. Taking thought, that is worrying, is in violation to Jesus’ commandment. Worrying is sinning. Worrying is questioning the ability of Him who said: if He can take care of the birds in the air how much better could he take care of us.

Lawlessness is Sinlessness

The law and sin are mutually inclusive, which means they complement each other, and that one cannot survive without the other. That’s right! Sin cannot survive without the law. The law is the breeding ground on which sin finds existence, thrives,nourishes and grows; without the law sin becomes non-existent. Continue reading Lawlessness is Sinlessness
